West Virginia created Hope in 2021. Instead of all education money going to the district school, families can point it at approved spending: tuition, curriculum, and also therapies and educational services from registered providers. That is where speech therapy fits.
The award is about $5,267 a year. At West Virginia therapy prices, that covers a big share of a year of weekly sessions. Families who homeschool or use private school can point the money at therapy alongside their other approved costs.

Applications run through hopescholarshipwv.gov. Apply at the start: awards shrink the later you apply in the cycle.
Sort out your child's school enrollment.
Hope funds education outside full-time public school. Check the current rules for your situation, especially with the 2026-27 expansion changing who qualifies.
Find a registered speech therapy provider.
The money can only go to providers registered with the program. Ask a practice if they are registered, or if they will register. More and more are.
Spend through the platform. Keep records.
Approved costs run through the program's system. Therapy invoices from a registered provider are a clean expense. Keep everything.
The quiet catch is timing: the same child gets less money just for applying later in the cycle. Apply at the start of the window, not the end.
